Warp
It is the main backbone of a carpet and it consists of usually cotton fiber (yarn) strands stretched vertically (from top to bottom). These strands are stretched on the loom before weaving begins.
Weft
These are yarn threads inserted horizontally (from right to left) to the warp threads, and woven in and out of the warp threads. It is generally made up of the similar fabric as the warp. Weft is visible only from the back of the carpet.
Knotting
The weaver sits on a plank facing the loom, makes sure that he/she has some essential tools with him/her, and
begins tying knots.
Knotting is an art. Every knot is fastened separately, the opportunity of totally individual color registration and design is provided.
These are made with pieces of yarn hardly more than one inch long and are twisted around the warp threads. Weaver circulates one color after another, knot for knot, on the absolute position of each line of knots. After manufacturing each line of knots he lays in a cross direction one or the several wefts strings.
Pakistani rug weavers use two types of knotting.
1. Single Knot employ turkoman influence like Bokhara, Jaldar and Caucasian.
2. Double Knot asymmetrical knotted (Senneh) with very high knot counts also called Pak Persian Rugs .
